David & Yolanda

They had written to us two years earlier. They had seen photographs from a surprise birthday party, liked them a great deal, and decided we were the ones they wanted for their wedding. The wedding was in Galicia: they paid for our flights from Barcelona and for somewhere to stay so that we could be there.

We went with Sergi Grau, who took care of the film. We lived there for the three nights and went through all of it together, from the first day to the last song.

The first day was a quiet one. That evening David and Yolanda threw a small celebration, the way you might warm up before the real thing. The next morning we started at the hotel with David, and from there to Yolanda's father's house, where she got ready. Then on to the church: a small and lovely igrexa, San Pedro de Bugallido.

Pazo de Xerlís is a walled estate with gardens that go on and on and a car park that swallows everyone. The cocktail hour happened outside, where there is room to spare, and the interior is set up for anything. There is a tunnel of greenery that looks like it was put there for photographs — and that is where we took the best ones of the day.
