Sara and Kevin

They married in the morning at the town hall in Sant Quintí de Mediona. Only part of the guest list came, the closest ones, and they walked out into the street under a shower of petals, the car waiting for them dressed in flowers. From there we loaded the gear and drove up together to Castell de Tous, in Sant Martí de Tous.

We already knew them a little, from a shoot, but not well enough. We met a few months beforehand just to get to know each other, because they had not met me yet. They are a young couple who trusted us completely, with both photography and film, and they enjoyed that day like few people do. Out of that trust came a friendship that is still going.

The castle stops you when you arrive: gardens of tall pines, old stone, interior stairs opening onto the courtyard and tall windows the afternoon light pours through. That light is what we used for the portraits. Outside, open country as far as you can see, and that is where the cocktail hour happened while sixty guests refused to stand still.

One detail that stays with you: Kevin's cufflinks were a bat. I am a serious Batman fan, so I took that photograph with particular enthusiasm.
